The New Parrot Handbook: Everything About Purchase, Acclimation, Care, Diet, Disease and Behavior of Parrots, With A Special Chapter on Raising Parrots
by Werner Lantermann, softcover, 144 pages, indexed, 50 color photos by outstanding animal photographers, 30 drawings by Fritz Kohler, 35 maps indicating distribution. This is a translation of a German book, published in 1985. INCLUDES Cockatoos, Macaws, and Caiques. This is probably about the best book I have seen on parrots and macaws but I don't need it anymore. $4 plus post.
Birds on the Couch: The Bird Shrink's Guide to Keeping Polly from Going Crackers and You Out of the Cuckoo's Nest
by Ruth Hanessian with Wendy Bounds: Hardover, dust jacket, 1998: This book sounds like a joke, but it's the real thing. Not all parrots and macaws are as aberrant in behavior as the ones described in this book, but if you are owned by a bird and think YOU have problems, the examples in this book will put things in perspective for you...with a smile. This is a used copy, in new condition. Former owner's name is on title page. $3 plus post
Guide to Canary Breeding and Exhibiting
A Cage Birds Handbook
by W.E. Brooks
A beautiful book with gorgeous color plates. I think this may be a very valuable book. It is from London, no date but I would guess the 1940s or early 1950s? This extolls the virtues of about 15 breeds of canary and talks about bird shows as well as health and management. Very detailed on captive breeding. Fascinating. $10 plus post is probably a great bargain.
