WILD HORSES

The Last Of The Wild Horses
[Paperback] by Harbury, Martin; photos by Ron Watts, Preface by Richard Adams
Oversized, all color photos
This was the display copy; some shop wear on corners but otherwise very fine. Great world tour of wild horse sites, makes you want to pack your bags. Covers Przewalskis in Mongolia, tarpans in Poland, British Isles ponies, white horses of France's Camargue, Canada's Sable Island horses, Aussie brumbies, American mustangs, etc. Highly recommended! The cover doesn't do it justice. Much more in-depth than just another book about wild horses, in my opinion. $12.00 each plus post

Shy Boy: The Horse That Came In from the Wild
by Monty Roberts, Photographs by Christopher Dydyk
Hardcover, no dust jacket, 239 pages

Here's how Publishers Weekly summarized this book: "Roberts quickly and painlessly transformed Shy Boy from a free-roaming steed of the Nevada foothills into a trusting, cooperative and worthy mount. Roberts's nonviolent approach to acclimating horses to saddle, bridle and rider was highlighted in 1997 and 1998 in a PBS-aired BBC documentary, which led countless viewers to inquire: If given the chance to be free again, would Shy Boy take it and run? Here is the answer to that question: Roberts describes taking Shy Boy back to his original free-range herd. The mustang's choice--after an overnight romp--makes for an unforgettable climax that will leave no dry eyes...Roberts's humane alternative to the harsh treatment of horses holds inspirational lessons about the abuse we inflict on animals--and on our fellow humans. Dydyk's breathtaking color photographs capture the rugged majestic terrain while exploring, without sentimentality, the spirit of nobility and freedom that the horse represents in America's collective psyche." They forgot to mention that the book is beautifully printed and packaged. $7 plus post.

Wild Horses of the West: History and Politics of America's Mustangs
by Joseph Edward De Steiguer
Paperback, 2011, new

History and politics of the wild horse controversy told with an objective pen. De Steiguer goes on to address the modern issues— ecology, conservation, and land management—surrounding wild horses in the West today.

From the publisher's blurb: Featuring stunning color photographs of wild horses, this extremely thorough and engaging blend of history, science, and politics will appeal to students of the American West, conservation activists, and anyone interested in the beauty and power of these striking animals.

A very good book. Last one. Price new: $24.95. Half price at $12.50 plus post.
